Production Plan

Production plan

Production team:
Robyn Prattis, Ben Stanhope, David Mills, Joe Davis

Characters
Izzi played by: Jade Holland
Izzi is the girly-girl of the group and acts as the 'popular girl', she is very interested in fashion, hair and beauty and her main concerns are her looks. A lot of younger girls may aspire to be like her so it is important to represent her in a positive way.

Molly played by: Becky Sutcliffe
Molly is a typical nerd whose main interests are maths and science. Molly is eager to succeed and do well; therefore setting a positive example to the audience. She wears glasses and a shirt with her hair in pigtails to emphasise that she is quite childish

Max played by: Joe Davis
Max is represented as the sporty boy and is stereotypically seen as the 'cool' boy of the show that the male audience may aspire to be like; therefore it is important to represent him positively. Max is shown as being friendly and fun.

Dean played by: Ben Stanhope

Dean is the bully of the group. He generally wears leather and band t-shirts with a chain around his neck. Dean is shown as being the trouble maker or 'bad boy' of the group, picking on his friends and a character that some of the audience may dislike for this reason.

Pitch

Title: Jump Up High
Genre: Children's television drama

Description of ideas
Our new children's drama, 'Run Around', is a lighthearted and fun show for young children to enjoy. The show is based on the lives of four main characters, a group of friendly school pre-teens. Each character has a different persona to keep the audience interested in watching more of the programme. For example, they follow different kinds of stereotypes which are girly, sporty, geeky and a bully. I found these characters an interesting combination to use as they will keep the viewers entertained due to creating a fun viewing for them, the audience will also be able to easily identify and relate to the characters, therefore appealing to a wider audience. School life is portrayed to be enjoyable during the episodes, therefore encouraging the audience to appreciate school life and their friends.

Why our product will be successful
The children's television drama we have created will be successful as we have researched and analysed existing products which are also aimed at the same target audience as us, young children. Our research has allowed us to identify typical conventions of these existing products and interpret these conventions into our own original opening sequence. Therefore the target audience will be appealed to 'Jump Up High' and enjoy watching the show.

A summary of conventions
Our children's drama 'Jump Up High' follows many different aspects of typical children's dramas that already exist. As we have followed a variety of these conventions, our target audience are more likely to find out product appealing, thus creating a wide spread audience. For example all of the characters involved in our title sequence are pre-teen school students which allows the target audience to relate to them due to being in a similar environment, this means the audience will be more inclined to watch it. For example, all of the locations have been filmed on school premises, such as a classroom and playground, again allowing the audience to relate to the programme as most of them will also be children who attend school. We found that it was conventional to use pre-teens in out analysis of similar products as this make the audience look up to the characters in admiration as they are 'cool, therefore we use them as role-models. Another convention we have followed is the use of the upbeat, enthusiastic theme tune for the programme which makes the show sound exciting as well as entertained. The majority of existing programmes aimed at young children follow the convention of using bright, vibrant colours to entice the audience, as these colours are associated with children. Additionally to this, it is also typical in childrens dramas to use high key lighting to again show the programme as bright and happy, which will attract a wider audience who will see the show as fun. The use of stereotypes is another popular convention i have used, showing each character with an individual personality in order to appeal to a wider audience. For example, 'Jump Up High' includes a character who would be perceived as a 'girly girl' by using appropriate costume and make-up to display this, such as pink clothing, accessories and long blonde hair, which all play a vital role in enhancing her stereotype.

A summary about the target audience
The target audience for our children's television drama 'Run Around' will be young children predominantly in the age range of 8-12 as this is who we found would be most appealed to it through our research of both analysing existing products and carrying out surveys. By using this age range we will generate as many viewers as possible. The surveys I carried out displayed this as well as analysing existing similar products.

Equipment and technologies

Equipment and technologies:

The equipment that will be needed for the filming are at least two cameras with tripods so we are able to film from different angles, allowing us to make the scene look professional as well as cutting down the filming time.

We will also need a mac with editing software, such as 'iMovie', on so we are able to edit our work and make sure the scenes work well together and flow smoothly; making sure they filfill the purpose of the programme. We will also need a normal PC such as a DELL in order to use softwares such as publisher in designing our ancillary tasks.

Blogger will be used to upload and display all of our work on both the film and the ancillary tasks.

Audiovisual media: Locations and risk assessment

All of our filming will be taken place on the school premises because we would like to use a location that the audience can relate to in order to appeal to the wider audience. Different parts of the school will be used to reinforce that it is in the school and to also add some excitement to the opening rather than having it in just one place, this allows us to have a diverse amount of scenes. The location is important and effects the film because it needs to be relevant to the target audience.

Risk assessment

Classroom:
Make sure people don't trip over the chairs and tables or any loose wires there may be. I will all chairs are tucked into the tables unless they are being used for filming, and also to make sure there are no loose wires around the room.

Front of school:
Make sure people don't slip in icy or wet conditions by filming in better weather conditions. Making sure there is nothing that could possible be tripped over by one of the characters. Ensure nobody is messing around with props.

Toilets/Bathroom:
Must make sure there is nobody in the toilets beforehand and must make sure there are no spillages or anything that could possibly be tripped over.

Playground:
Ensure that the actor is happy and confident about shooting basketball. Make sure there is nothing to trip on and that weather conditions are safe. Make sure sufficient clothing is being worn such as trainers. Try to avoid concrete.

Audiovisual media

Outline

Setting: The setting will be set in school as this is a place that the target audience will mostly be able to relate to.

Characters: There will be 4 main characters all of a different stereotype. There will be an equal ratio of girls to boys to reinforce that this show in unisex. The characters will include:
- Popular girl (Izzi): Good looking, Boys fancy her.
- Sporty boy (Max): Good looking, Girls fancy him.
- Geek (Molly): Girl, Glasses, Dressed accordingly
- Bully (Dean): The 'bad boy', wears lots of black leather, spiky hair

Plot: Shows each of the characters individually and then together at the end. Each of their individualities are shown. For example Max will be seen playing basketball which is something that he enjoys.
Music: Upbeat song to show the audience that the show is lighthearted.

Below is a shot-list diagram of how i would like my main product to be, followed by a storyboard of my audiovisual media:

Script:

Popular Girl (Izzi): Izzi will be shown looking into the mirror in the girls toilets, she will be posing and playing with her hair to reinforce that she is very much interested in how she looks. She will be dressed fashionably with her main item of clothing being a pink cardigan or jacket. Izzi will generally be shown as vein. She will then blow a kiss to the camera and her name will appear above in a curly and pink writing to represent her femininity.

Sporty Boy (Max): Max will be introduced playing basketball, he will shoot a hoop which will therefore represent him as 'cool'. Max will be dressed in sporty clothing and similarly to Izzi will be represented as a popular person. He will then smile at the camera and his name will appear in a blue simple font.

Geek (Molly): Molly is introduced solving mathematical equations on the whiteboard in a classroom. She will be wearing stereo-typically geeky clothes such as glasses, a shirt and a tie, this will be accompanied with her hair in pig-tails. Molly will then smile at the camera and her name will appear in a curly orange font.

Bully (Dean): Dean is introduced making fun of people. He will be wearing a band t-shirt with a black leather jacket and wearing a chain around his neck. Billy will look at the camera and his name will appear in a black bold font such as 'Cooper Black' to represent his personality.

After each character is introduced, there is a wide-shot of all of them jumping to reinforce the name of the show "Jump-Up High", this will then freeze into a still-shot of all the characters.

Above is an animatics video of my storyboard. I have added the theme tune I would like to use in my main product which is called 'college days'. I thought this theme tune suited well to what I want my product to be as it's upbeat and catchy which gives off a positive image about the show, portraying it as lighthearted and exciting. I have also added a 'flip' effect between each frame which i would like to use in my main product as I feel this makes the opening seem more appealing to my specific target audience of children.
